JOURNEY THROUGH THE EYES OF REFUGEE CHILDREN

Inspiring. Insightful. Heartwarming.

The Treehouse Theatre program provides a platform for young refugees to share their life stories with friends, family and the wider community. It’s an emotional, joyful and life affirming performance that needs to be experienced. Join us. Laugh, cry and never be the same again.

How You Can Help

Come and see a show

There is nothing like seeing a show. We perform new shows twice a year at Casula Powerhouse in Liverpool in June and The Seymour Centre in Oct/Nov. Daytime performances are ideal for school excursions. The performances link to many high school curriculums. Resources are available for teachers. Evening performances for families of the cast. The general public are welcome at all performances.

Help transform lives through theatre

Donations help fund our program. We are primarily a volunteer organisation but the costs for theatres, technicians, transport and catering all add up quickly. Any support you can give is appreciated. Donations more than $2 are tax deductible.

Be part of the story

You can get involved today by becoming a Volunteer. This is rewarding work that is hands on and makes a real difference to the cast and their families. There are so many ways to help, using a range of skills. From helping at rehearsals and the shows, building and managing our database, creating social media content, PR, accounting, marketing and fundraising.

Our Vision

We are passionate about giving “The Refugee Experience” a genuine and empathic face.

The resilient young refugees with whom we work, offer us their life stories with open-hearted grace, and thus hand us the privilege and the responsibility of finding a way to give these stories a voice and an audience. We long for all Australians to hear these young people. We yearn for all Australians to feel these stories. We crave other young people of all backgrounds to connect these vibrant faces with the word “refugee” and learn we are all not so different.

What people say

“Treehouse Theatre is how Australia can witness the experiences of the young refugees among us. Australia gives them a new life, and they give back so much in return.”

Peter Hartcher
Journalist

‘It’s a connection between two worlds that I haven’t seen before. The audience comes to know and better understand that which is hidden. In all, it’s about hope. That we can all find ways to see each other as human. Don’t miss it.’

Craig Foster

Human Rights & Refugee Advocate, Sports Commentator

“Shocking, moving and funny. I felt emotional, proud and privileged to have seen it. Australia needs these refugees. More please.”

Miriam Margolyes

Actor

“It was a transformative experience for our students. It helped them grapple with hard realities which otherwise are beyond their experience and difficult to make real to them.”

Elizabeth Stone

Principal, Queenwood School

“I couldn’t recommend the Treehouse Theatre performances more strongly as vital learning and empowerment for young people and for those who teach them.”

Nick Magriplis

Director Educational leadership, Liverpool Principals’ Network

“After attending a treehouse performance, one of my Australian-born students commented, “These kids are bullied horribly at school. I know, I was one of the bullies, but not any more.”

Nathan Redmayne
Deputy Principal, Engadine High School

“Makes their peers, reflect and think about refugee stereotypes and the people behind these images. Never had a student not affected by listening to another student tell their story.”

Jeff Lovett
Deputy Principal, Mount Annan High School

“Including a Treehouse performance in wellbeing programs, gives students a deeper understanding of diversity, inclusion and resilience.”

Lillian Joseph

Deputy Principal, Wellbeing, Holroyd High School.
